Japan Nite 2008

Posted in Events on March 26th, 2008 by PeppstaR

It’s March again and we were able to catch Japan Nite this year at The Independant in San Francisco. Parking around Divisidero is insane and we ended up being over an hour late for the show. We ended up missing the first band, Scandal. Here’s their myspace music page: http://www.myspace.com/scandal4 They sound cool, it really sucks that I missed them.

We did catch The Emeralds, which was the band that we really wanted to see. They rocked the house with some new songs off their latest album. Check them out @ http://www.myspace.com/theemeralds

The next band up was Ketchup Mania. They were pretty cool, you can check out their myspace music page here: http://www.myspace.com/ketchupmaniajf

Up next was Detroit7. They had a cool sound and we wanted to buy their CD but when Maricel went to buy it, she missed the last one to the girl right in front of her… which really sucked. At one point, the lead vocalist/guitarist started rockin’ out the National Anthem. myspace music page: http://www.myspace.com/detroit7

Petty Booka was up next, but I kinda have mixed feeling about their performance. First of all, they aren’t the original duo. They sing the songs a lot higher pitched which was cute and all, but what was so cool about Petty Booka originally is how they rocked out their ukuleles and these new girls had a whole crew playing most of the music. You can check out their page @ http://www.myspace.com/pettybookatokyo but it has the original duo’s music up there.

The final band was The Beaches. Really cool band. I like when they took the stage and ended. They had everyone cheer “c’mon beaches!!” for the intro and “bye bye beaches!” for their exit. Just imagine the place cheering that out loud… Their sound was full of energy and the lead was pretty wild. It was cool when he jumped onto a fan’s shoulders and then got off and performed in the center of the crowd. You can check them out @ http://www.myspace.com/comeonthebeaches

Our new print press has arrived!

Posted in Shop News on March 23rd, 2008 by PeppstaR

It’s finally here… Our automatic screen press to increase our production rate.

A couple weeks ago, I found an automatic screen printing machine for sale in Ontario, CA. I contacted the seller as soon as possible and there were people interested in the press that contacted him before me. To beat them to the punch, I booked a flight to go down there the following morning and brought cash (being first with the cash always does the trick). I saw, I liked, paid for it and arranged for its delivery back to SF. We also picked up a second flash dryer as part of the deal, but the new one has pneumatic actuators that push the heat element over the pallet only when prompted too. This is a nice feature to keep the pallets from warping and throwing off the registration.

Two weeks later it all arrives…

Automatic Press

Crazy to see a 2000lbs. press so high up in the air!

Loading the Automatic

It’s a 6-Color 8-Station Automatic Screen Press. The pic only has 4 print arms on it now, but 2 were removed to make it easier to ship/maneuver around. More about the new location later ^_^

My addiction…

Posted in Random stuff on March 4th, 2008 by PeppstaR

Well, I don’t smoke cigarettes and I stopped drinking (even socially) but I do still have one thing that I must have and that is:

Kirin Milk Tea

Kirin Milk Tea. (also called Afternoon Tea, Gogona Kocha (sp?) or Rose Tea at one point)
I love this stuff. I buy it by the case. What I hate is that it’s not always in stock at the Japanese Super Markets. This stuff kills my pockets too @ $4.50 each w/o case discounts.

I like to have a bottle around when I sketch or do anything artistic… I dunno. I can produce art with out it and all, but I suppose it just adds to my comfort level when drawing.

I would love to carry this stuff at Never Too Latte, but there aren’t any local distributors for it. The closest I found so far is in SoCal. The market at Japan Town gets it from there and orders theirs by the pallet and then they distribute it among their locations. If I were to order it from there, the shipping would be more than what I pay now retail ~sigh.
